Overview

The Department of Hindu Religious and Cultural Affairs was instituted officially on 1st of January, 1986 by the cabinet decision dated on 2nd October, 1985 (1985/123-12). It was mandated to handle all matters related to Hindu Religious Affairs in Sri Lanka.

Mission

To Preserve, Promote and Propagate of Hindu Religion by providing quality client-centric programmes through innovation, teamwork and community support.

Objectives

  • To Promote Hindu Religious education to practice moral and religious values among Hindu Children.
  • To Preserve Hindu Religious practices for sustaining and developing Hindu Religion and Culture.
  • To Promote Research on Hindu Religion and Culture and to sensitize the public about the noble character of Hindu Culture and the magnificence of Hindu Art and Architecture
  • To Preserve and Promote the Tamil Arts through the contributions of Tamil Artists and transmit them to future generation
  • To stimulate Hindu Temples and Hindu Organizations for Promoting Hindu religious , cultural, social, , and spiritual development activities.
